Please join the AGC West Central Ohio in congratulating Teri J. Barnes, who received the 2011 annual $1000 Scholarship. Currently, Teri is studying Accounting at Sinclair College and is employed as the Office Manager for the Laborers Local 1410.

Ironworkers Local 290
The Ironworkers Local 290 held its Annual Apprentice Competition on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Mike Yauger, Ironworker 290 Apprentice Program Coordinator, ran the event with twenty fourth-year apprentices competing in nine different skills. The competition is held each year as the graduating class completes its requirements for the Apprenticeship Program.
The following week, Ironworkers Local 290 hosted the 2011 Southern Ohio & Vicinity District Council Apprenticeship Competition with 17 participants from Ohio, KY, and IN over two days. The apprentices competed in nine different tasks including: reeving block, tying knots, using survey instruments, welding, completing a written section, assembling ornamental window and curtain wall, burning, and tying rebar. The Council Competition concluded with the 35 foot column climb and a lunch cookout. Overall, both competitions were successful and the apprentices who competed showed a good variety of skill and workmanship.

Combs Named President of AGC West Central Ohio Board of Directors
At a recent meeting, Mark Combs, Combs Interior Specialties, accepted his new role as President of the Board of Directors of the AGC West Central Ohio Division. Randall Fox, Executive Director, welcomed Mr. Combs to his new position. He also thanked Paul Crow of Tuttle Construction Inc. for his service as President over the past two years. In addition, Sean Smith, Smith Construction Group was named Sr. Vice President and John Schroer, Rhecors General Contracting, Inc. accepted the position of Vice President. Edward Jauch of Dayton Stencil will continue in his role as Secretary and Treasurer of the AGC West Central Ohio Board. With the promotion of Schroer, Kenneth Schroeder returns to the AGC Board as a Director. See a complete listing of the AGC West Central Ohio Board of Directors 2011-12.

Congressman Steve Austria Meets with Local AGC and CSI Steve Austria, U.S. House of Representatives, Ohio's 7th District, spoke at a Joint Meeting of the Associated General Contractors, West Central Ohio Division and the Dayton/Miami Valley Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. He shared his experiences in office as a Freshman Congressman dealing with bills including Stimulus Funding, Cap and Trade amendment, and Healthcare Reform. Congressman Austria emphasized the importance of Wright Patterson Air Force Base on the local community and discussed the Blue Ribbon Commission. He said the Group's goal is to submit recommendations on how more local companies can win contracts with the base to create jobs in the local area. In conclusion, the Congressman pledged his ongoing support and desire to outreach to the people and local businesses he serves. Construction employment declined in all but 19 areas nationwide in June 2009 as compared to June 2008, according to a new analysis of metropolitan-area employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America.
